"The Gospel Trumpet": News

Shenandoah Heritage Market - June 27, 2009

On Friday, June 26th The Gospel Trumpet performed at the Shenandoah Heritage Farmer's Market in a benefit concert for Sylvia Williams, owner of the Western Wear store at the market. There was a nice (and appreciative) crowd and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. A special thank you to my close friends who came out in support of this worthy cause. Delicious chicken meals were enjoyed and everyone had a great time. Even after the concerts, many folks hung around to enjoy the campfire and roasted smores. Helmuth Builders, from Harrisonburg, VA supplied comfortable chairs and gliders from their great lineup of outdoor furniture and everyone was comfortable as the sun slowly slipped behind the hills. I look forward to seeing each of you again soon. - Jack <><

Howdy!! Since we last talked, I've been busy playing Gospel Music across Virginia and bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to a hurting world. In addition to the Solo "Gospel Trumpet" Ministry, I'm also playing trumpet with the country Gospel group, High on the Mountain Boys. The band itinerary is also included on the Gospel Trumpet Schedule. Dates with the group are identified as HOM. If you're going to be in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia on any of my concert dates, please try to stop by. I'd love to see you! - Jack

Danny Davis (Jack's Hero) Passes - June 12, 2008

Danny Davis, a Grammy-winning band leader and record producer who blended swing music with a country style, died June 12, 2008. Davis, a trumpet player and singer, suffered a heart attack at home June 7, 2008, publicist Betty Hofer said.
Davis formed Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass in 1968 after a career with big bands and as a record producer. The group, who ranged from 7 to 11 members, won a Grammy Award in 1969 for best country instrumental performance for "The Nashville Brass Featuring Danny Davis - Play More Nashville Sounds". The band also won the Country Music Association’s instrumental group of the year award from 1969 through 1974.
Danny was on the cutting edge of the music business and had his own jet airplane which he used to fly his band, The Nashville Brass, to engagements around the world.
After “retiring” from the Nashville Brass, Danny played occasional shows with Boots Randolph in Los Vegas. He was 83.
