Independence Day Greetings - July 6, 2010

Howdy Friends – Glad you dropped in!
Hope you had a great (and safe) Independence Day. Donna and I went over to Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton to see Ivan Parker and Brian Free and Assurance. Everything was wonderful except it was soooo hot – even sitting under the huge shade trees… If you are ever near Staunton, Virginia, don’t miss driving around Gypsy Hill Park. Everyone raves about it and there’s almost always something going on.

Each weekday evening during July and August there are FREE concerts.

Monday nights are Stonewall Brigade Band nights, featuring lots of toe-tapping music.
Praise-in-the-Park, offering many different styles of gospel music is held on Tuesdays.
Wednesday evenings feature some of the country’s best Bluegrass.
Jazz-in-the-Park is held on Thursdays.
And each Friday an award-winning family movie is shown on the giant screen.

You just haven’t lived until you’ve been there! :-)
Until Later… Have a Great and Blessed Week

Prayers Needed - July 2, 2010

Just received news about The Bowling Family's tragic tour-bus accident. 12-13 people were injured when the bus slammed into a tractor trailer truck which was stopped in traffic near Charlotte, NC. Several of the Bowlings were injured, with Mark's injuries being the most serious. The Bowlings are Gospel Music Artists with many excellent songs to their credit. Please join with me in praying for quick recoveries for all and that they will exit this tradgedy with an even stronger desire to sing for Jesus!

Dinner With A Perfect Stranger - January 20, 2010

Have you seen this movie? Donna and I watched it last weekend and found it to be Life Changing! It took religion out of the picture and placed our focus on Jesus. (Isn't that where it's supposed to be?) Don't miss the opportunity to see it - It's available on DVD for home use and gets 5 stars from us. To make things even sweeter, Family Christian Bookstores have the 2-movie set on special right now for only $5

Haiti Disaster - January 15, 2010

Please continue to pray for the nation of Haiti. Not only that their country will be able to heal from this great earthquake tradgedy, but for something far more important: Through this great trial, Hatians will turn their hearts toward a living Savior and become followers of Jesus!

Jimmy Fortune Concert - Weyer's Cave Community Center - November 24, 2009

Concert Date: December 19, 2009
This concert is a benefit for the Verona Food Pantry - not to be confused with the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
Jimmy will be singing and The Pony Express Band consisting of Robby and Lisa Meadows, Pat Burr, and Willie Hayes will back him up. Always a great event and for a very good cause!

Prayers For Direction - November 5, 2009

Hello Friends –
I have been praying recently about God’s direction for The Gospel Trumpet music ministry and some specific venues have come to mind. They are as follows:

The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee.
Carnegie Hall Theater in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
The Robert F. Thomas Chapel at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN.
Liberty Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Nationwide Gaither Homecoming Tours.
The Virginia Beach Gospelfest in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Everyone knows that Gospel Music is not the “in” thing at some of these venues; however, believers also know that nothing is too great for our God! Would you please join me in praying that even if the Gospel Trumpet is not the one selected to play in these locations, that music and testimony which lifts the name of Jesus would become a mighty part of their programming?
I feel that we are in the last days and are right on the verge of the Lord exercising his mighty power. How can He possibly wait much longer?? As Christians, we need to be telling those we come in contact with about His love and wonderful, saving grace!

Would the message of The Gospel Trumpet would fit in with a special event at your church? If so, please give me a call. Unlike many traveling ministries I do not charge. Love offerings are appreciated to help cover expenses but there is never a fee. The Lord has always provided.
References will be cheerfully furnished upon request.
Blessings to you and Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Jack <><

Jay Caldwell and The Gospel Ambassadors - October 5, 2009

Last night I played with High on the Mountain Boys at the Crawford Brothers 56th Anniversary Celebration in Staunton, VA. We had the honor of sharing the evening with Jay Caldwell and the Gospel Ambassadors from Wilmington, Delaware. The Ambassadors are on the road every weekend spreading the name of Jesus, and are one of the nicest and most talented groups I have ever encountered. Do you remember a group from the 70's called the Chi-Lites? The Gospel ambassadors' sound was so reminiscent of the Chi-Lites to me - with a major exception... The Ambassadors sing about our Lord, Jesus! They have a website, Jay Caldwell and the Gospel Ambassadors, and a few videos on YouTube, but you must see them in person to experience the real magic of the group. Leader Jay Caldwell's testimony is woven throughout the program, and his musicians were incredible. You guys keep up the good work and hopefully we will be together again soon. God's richest blessings to you!

I don't endorse many places, but this is one that I am happy to recommend to you. The address is 1152 Virginia Avenue, Goshen Virginia and their phone number is (540) 319-4007. Next time you are out for a Sunday drive, why not head for The Mill Creek Cafe. The drive is beautiful from anywhere and the music starts at 3:00pm. <><

Les Paul Dies - August 13, 2009

August 13, 2009 - White Plains, NY -
Les Paul, one of the great innovators in music technology has died…
Everyone who records music (and most musicians) owe a debt of gratitude to Les Paul for his work with sound engineering. He was a true pioneer, getting wonderful new sounds out of a guitar. Many of the great sounds that we enjoy today are due to the “little black boxes” that Les invented. And of course, there’s the Gibson Les Paul guitar which is treasured by musicians all over the world.
The following link is a tribute to Les’ life and work. It’s a great read.

Thanks, Les. Rest in peace – we will miss you!

Gospel Chicken House - August 10, 2009

Have you been to the "Gospel Chicken House" in Montpelier, VA? Every Saturday night, gospel concerts are held in what was once an old chicken house. The High On the Mountain Boys played there for the first time this past Saturday evening and it was a great experience. The people were friendly and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced, but what impressed me the most was that you could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. There were hundreds of people there and when Miss Vicky did the evening devotion you could have heard a pin drop. To make it easy for you to find out more about the Chicken House I've added a link to their website. "The Boys" hope to be invited back soon and we hope to see you there too. If you are within 100 miles, it is well worth the drive to experience this great family atmosphere. <><

New Photos Added - July 22, 2009

Howdy! Andrew Willett, my 11 year old friend (and amateur photographer) came over to Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton on July 14th and again on July 21st to take some pictures of his "old-er" buddy playing at Praise in the Park. I played solo as "The Gospel Trumpet" on July 14th and as a member of High on the Mountain Boys on July 21st. Andrew did such a good job, I asked if I could showcase his work here and he said "sure". Thanks Andrew for your great work and for your friendship! Jack - - <><

Praise In The Park - July 14, 2009

Last night was a very special time playing the Lord's Music under the trees in the Staunton park. The crowd was exceptionally welcoming and two of my friends helped further "The Gospel Trumpet" ministry by taking photos and a video of the program. WOW - Life doesn't get any better. Thanks also to my friends who came out in support of the evening and thanks to the Linden Heights Baptist Church, whose vision it was to begin such a wonderful tradition. If I can be of service to your Church, Retreat Center, or Civic Group, please don't hesitate to give me a call. Blessings to you! - Jack <><
